For a truly relaxing beach holiday, try Camp de Mar in south west Majorca - sun, sand and relaxation in gorgeous surroundings.
Camp de Mar is a small, quiet beach resort within the municipal district of Andratx, in the south west of Majorca. Situated approximately 32km (about 20 miles) from Palma airport, transfer time from the airport to Camp de Mar is usually 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.
Picturesque and charming, the resort is located in a small bay and has a fine sandy beach gently sloping into the warm, clear waters of the Mediterranean. Set amongst rocky headlands which seem to frame the view out over the sea, its location is one of the prettiest in Majorca and an ideal setting for lazy beach holidays in the sun doing nothing much at all.
Camp de Mar's tourist facilities include a handful of restaurants and bars, a sprinkling of souvenir / gift shops, and a few upmarket hotels. Camp de Mar is far less developed than some of the other south west coast resorts, such as Palma Nova, Santa Ponsa or Magaluf. As such you will not find the same range of bars and restaurants, however there are some nice places to eat here, including seafood and traditional Majorcan cuisine.
Evening entertainment in Camp de Mar is mainly hotel based. One attraction is the lovely floating 'island' beach bar, set on a rocky outcrop, and accessed via a jetty. What a place to enjoy a cocktail and take in the views!
The atmosphere in Camp de Mar is relaxed and peaceful, and is well-suited to families and couples seeking laid back holidays in a friendly location. Although there are not many tourist attractions as such, the area is popular with countryside lovers as there is plenty to explore: secluded coves, wooded hills and pine-clad valleys.
Camp de Mar has an exclusive feel, and attracts some rich and famous property owners. If you visit Camp de Mar you will notice a lot of very special looking villas, many owned by celebrities. There are quite a few villas in the area, and the resort tends to attract independent travellers owning or renting privately, rather than package holiday makers.
All in all, Camp de Mar is a quiet, exclusive resort where you can kick back and relax - lovely scenery, great beach, and beautiful countryside. Not a resort for party animals!
For a change of scenery, try neighbouring Paguera just to the east, or Andratx and Puerto Andratx to the north and west.
