El Arenal is a lively beach resort, with plenty of bars, clubs and discos - perfect for partying all night long after a long lazy day on the beach!
Situated 10km east of Palma de Mallorca, on Majorca's south coast, Arenal is a large well-established resort. Just 5km from Palma International Airport, transfers to El Arenal are a breeze - typically taking around 20 minutes.
This upbeat resort sits at the eastern end of a long stretch of sandy beach, along which sit the neighbouring resorts of Playa de Palma and Can Pastilla. The three resorts are linked by a long promenade along the coast, and almost blend into one, so you can easily walk between them. The walk is a pleasant one without any hills, so is fine for pushchairs, wheelchairs etc., and also an easy route for cycling along - you can hire bicycles from several places in the resorts. There is also a tourist mini-train that runs between the three resorts in the summer season.
El Arenal has plenty of facilities along it's stretch of this fabulous sandy beach, which has Blue Flag status. There are plenty of watersports and pedalo hire, sunbeds and parasols, plus beach huts (Balnearios) dotted along at regular intervals providing drinks and snacks, showers and toilet facilities. There's also a wealth of cocktail bars, restaurants and cafes along the beachfront promenade.
Other activities in El Arenal include tennis courts, mini golf (Golf Fantasia), boat trips, scuba diving, sailing and a waterpark, Aqualand.
El Arenal is a mecca for young German holiday makers and is often compared to Magaluf, a favourite of the British 18-30 brigade. Indeed it does have many similarities - with a wealth of lively bars and clubs and very lively atmosphere and nightlife, it is fair to say that Arenal is the German equivalent of Magaluf.
This is a loud resort and not the place to come if you are seeking relaxation and peace and quiet.
Holiday accommodation in the resort spans the full range from budget accomodation to luxury hotels, self-catering to all-inclusive. Many are adult-only, reflecting the hard-partying nature of El Arenal. There is plenty of choice for eating out, with a full range of international restaurants, including traditional Spanish, German and British.
For exploring beyond the resort, transport links from Arenal to Palma are good - there are regular buses, and it's a relatively short journey, so taking a taxi is also a viable option if you wish to do some city sightseeing or shopping.
